1841 Census: James aged 4 living with parents and brothers John and Joshua at Church Speen, Speen, Newbury, Berkshire.
1851 Census: James aged 13 living with parents and brother John at Church Speen Village, Speen, Newbury, Berkshire
1861 Census: James aged 23 and not married living at 5, Brewer Street, Pancras Ward, London. Occupation is a butcher. He married later in 1861.
1871 Census: James aged 34 a Master Butcher is living with his wife Sophia, and children Thomas, William, and Richard. It appears most likely that Thomas was registered as Thomas Titman at birth (he was born three years before Sophia married James Freebody). Also at the property are his mother-in-law, and Sophia's sisters Mary and Charlotte.
1881 Census: James aged 43 is at Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire, living with his wife, mother-in-law and children Richard and Jane.
1891 Census: James aged 53 is at 19 Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire, living with his wife, and children Richard and Jane and neice Sophia.
1901 Census: James aged 64 is at 16a Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire, living with his wife, and son Richard. He is now shown as a publican.
1911 Census: James aged 74 is at 10 Kimbers Alms Houses, Cheap St, Newbury, Berkshire with his wife. It is interesting to note that from this census it states they have had three children all still living. It is assumed that Thomas is the one not included, and would also indicate he was registered as Thomas Titman.
