1841 Census: At Old Kent Road Alfred Place, St George, Southwark, Surrey with Alice her mother, and siblings Charles, William, Artemedia, and James.

1851 Census: Although her mother and sister Artemedia were at West Ilsley at the time of the census, Philippa has not been found, although there is a possibility she was staying with an aunt at 51, Broomfields, St Pauls Deptford, Greenwich, Kent. This has not been proved either this was an aunt, or the person staying there was Philippa. The record just states P Knowles, but interestingly born in St Georges, Middlesex, and with the possibly correct birth year.

1861 Census: At Back Road, Speen, Newbury, Berkshire with husband John Freebody, and daughter Ann.

1871 Census: At Grove Dairy Farm, Speen, Newbury, Berkshire with husband John, and daughters Ann and Alice.

Philippa emigrated to New Zealand in approximately 1874, leaving her husband John and daughters ann and alice. She had with her the youngest daughter Philippa. There are various newspaper reports stating that she took to drink, and daughter Ann arrived in New Zealand with power of attorney for her father, to take daughter Philippa back to her father.
