On familysearch.org there is an entry: birth: 21 Apr 1867, christening: 08 Sep 1867 - WALTON ON THAMES, SURREY, ENGLAND. On viewing the original entry it can be seen that the birth is at Hampton Court Barracks presumably where her father Warwick was stationed whilst serving with the 3rd Hussars. However a 'Birth' entry in the PRO BMD indexes cannot be found. Various census records are obviously incorrect regarding her birthplace e.g Hampton Court, Hampshire Court. One line of research is that Gertrude was registered under a different name, and brought up as a Freebody.
1871 Census: Common Side, Walton Upon Thames. Staying with her paternal grandparents.
1881 Census: Marine House School, St Margaret At Cliffe. Gertrude has been recorded incorrectly on the actual census as "Freebags", and she gave her birthplace as Hampton Court, Surrey. She was a general servant.
1891 Census: 3, Gloucester Terrace, Portsea, Portsmouth.
1901 Census: 10, Pennar Military Road, Pembroke St Mary staying with her Mother and Father in Law. She is shown as a widow.
1911 Census:5 Alexandra Road Landport Portsmouth.
